Spicy Garlic Edamame
If you like Edamame, you will LOVE Spicy Garlic Edamame. It’s a much more savory, flavorful version of the regular salted kind. Sure, salty Edamame tastes good, but imagine this… Edamame sautéed in sesame oil with lots of garlic! And flavored with umami packed Gochujang, a sweet and spicy Korean chili paste. Sounds good? This truly is my favorite way to enjoy Edamame.

Here is a list of the ingredients you will need to make Spicy Garlic Edamame.

A detailed recipe with measurements is in the recipe card below.
Ingredient Notes
Edamame – as long as it’s edamame in the shell, you can use either frozen or fresh. (Details on how to precook edamame are below)
Gochujang (コチュジャン) – it’s a fermented chili paste popular in Korean cooking. Gochujang is a great condiment to use for savory, spicy and slightly sweet flavors. It’s sold in any Asian supermarket or on Amazon. If you don’t have it, you can substitute it by mixing some miso with maple syrup and chili sauce, like Sriracha or Sambal sauce. For this recipe, mix 2 teaspoons of miso, 1/2 teaspoon of maple syrup, and 1/2 tsp of chili sauce.
How To Pre-cook Edamame
Frozen Edamame – if you’re using pre-cooked frozen edamame, all you have to do is defrost them. If the frozen edamame are uncooked, boil them in salted water for 3~4 minutes. Once cooked, drain and set aside to cool.
Fresh Edamame – boil the edamame in salted water for 4~5 minutes. Once cooked, drain and set aside to cool.
How To Make Spicy Garlic Edamame
It is a very simple, 2-step process to make Spicy Garlic Edamame.
Step 1: Sauté
Heat sesame oil in a pan, and cook minced garlic until fragrant. Add Gochujang, sesame seeds and chili flakes to the pan and mix.
Step 2: Toss
